Gloomy Thursday

So I have been catching up this week on all sorts of things. I've been cleaning out my closets, updating my CV, and catching up with various people. The weather has been really shitty the past few days with nothing but rain and clouds. I went to the movies with my New Gym Sister but that was about it as far as fun stuff goes since the weekend. These past few days I have also been dealing with my annual case of tonsillitis! I was checked out at the Walgreens walk-in clinic and fortunately it isn't strep throat. It's more than likely a viral infection so I just have to wait for it to pass. I guess that's what I get for marching for gay rights in the cold and rain! lol

These past few days have also allowed me some time to reflect on the current state of my life. I was so busy and so deeply immersed in my rotation at Rush for 6 weeks that everything else in my life turned into background noise. So I have been a bad mood these past few days. There are alot of things on my mind. I'm still frustrated with certain friendships and well, even though I am hopefully moving later this year, men too! My only comfort is that my homegirl Wanda meets just as many weirdos as I do so I know I'm not alone on this one! lol. I am also frustrated with the uncertainty of the rest of the year. Yes, it's all wonderful and nice for me to say what I WANT to do, but there are so many factors to be taken into consideration that I honestly don't know what's going to happen after I graduate in September. Will I have a job right away? Will I have to wait to move? Will I not move at all or will I end up somewhere completely unexpected? I am used to always having a plan and some sort of structure but this is the first time in my life I don't have the luxury of doing so. Ugh.

One more video....

This sums it up quite nicely.

We Won't Back Down

Yesterday it was announced that the California Supreme Court decided to uphold Proposition 8 (the gay marriage ban). Couples married before the ban would remain married. The reasoning behind the verdict was that this case was not to determine whether Prop 8 was right or wrong but whether or not such a drastic change could be made by popular vote. Nevertheless, there are already plans to bring this issue back to the ballot box in 2010. With the vote as close as it was this past election (52% vs 48%) it suffices to say the battle for equal marriage rights will continue. In 102 cities across the country there were marches and protests. I attended the one here in Chicago. I am not happy with the California Supreme Court's decision, however I attended the protest because I am angry like many other gays and lesbians that are disgusted that our fair and equal treatment has to be decided by the voting public. Minority groups should not have their fate left at the hands of the majority voting public. How absurd would it be if there was suddenly a proposition to limit the rights of Muslims in this country? Or the handicapped? Would it be wrong to go and vote on those? The ongoing dilemma not only in California but the entire country is that history has told us time and time again that the government can't promise equal rights for everyone......and then say oops, well except for that group over there.

We won't back down.

Leatherfied

Well, I survived my last week at Rush and my final evaluation was very good.....so good that the critical care PharmD sent me an email telling me that he hopes I consider Rush for post-graduate residency training next year!

Doh! Now I have to rethink my move plans. Do I stay in Chicago and place all my bets on Rush, or do I still move and take my chances elsewhere? It's a tough call because I could get screwed either way. I think this summer, as I begin to look for jobs after graduation, will help me determine where I am going. My heart is set on Miami but I also need to be practical. I don't want to move without a job. Miami already has enough homeless people. lol

Well Memorial Day weekend in Chicago is my chance to partake in the International Mr. Leather festivities! The picture above is actually the same dancer from my b-day party. He was one of many beefaroni go-go boys at the House Of Blue's party on Sunday. I don't dare post a picture of what I was wearing!

This past weekend I also made a visit to see my Gym Sister (who actually doesn't work out at my gym anymore but I don't feel like giving him a new name) at Circuit for Madonna Night! Yes, it was all Madonna, all night. And my gym sister did a fierce job bartending in man-drag as the "Like A Virgin" Madonna. LOL

Surving Sepsis

To say I have been busy the past 6 weeks would be a complete and total understatement. Never in my life have I had so much to do. There have been days when I literally forget to turn on my phone. What's weird is I have been so busy I didn't even realize until today that some people I have not seen or spoken with in over a month. And get ready for this shocker.........I don't think I have had one drop of alcohol since my birthday! Now that is amazing! LOL

I am not complaining though. This is my last week in Rush University Medical Center's intensive care unit and WOW have I learned alot. I feel like I recite the "Surviving Sepsis Campaign" guidelines in my sleep! I've presented a journal on tight glycemic control in the ICU, a patient case presentation on Staph aureus bacteremia in a hemodialysis patient and given an inservice on vasopressor and inotropic support in septic shock patients to the medical residents in the ICU. I am by no means a critical care PharmD expert just yet but I think I have a good knowledge base to build on. I will have two weeks off starting this weekend and I am excited. I have no vacations planned but I look forward to not having to wake up every morning at 4:30AM! I also will be busy as I begin the official process of job hunting. Granted I don't graduate for another 3 months but it doesn't hurt to get a head start!

Never too busy for Sophie!

Sophie Ellis Bextor is the most beautiful woman on pop music! I love her snooty English accent!

When Kelly Takes Over

Kelly Rowland was always my favorite member Destiny's Child. Despite the fact she usually got stuck with the dyke weaves and her few solo verses were ruined by Beyonce's yelping, deep down I always knew that she was the truly talented one. Granted, her solo albums were rather disappointing minus a few brilliant singles sprinkled in, I knew it was only a matter of time before Kelly would finally break free from the clutches of the evil Knowles Family! Kelly ended her management deal with Beyonce's father and left her record label. The result? We now see Kelly with some kick ass weave belting out tunes that no one would have ever expected her to do! Her popularity overseas is on the rise. She recently did duets with Nadiya, a popular French singer and a Tizianno Ferro a popular Italian singer. Well, the video above is her recent live performance of her collaboration with super DJ David Guetta. I get chills just watching her sing that song! It's like she channeling Donna Summer up on stage! Watch out Beyonce! Your reign of terror is coming to an end!

In other slutty news.....

So my preceptor had to go out of town for a conference this week so yesterday and today I was able to leave Rush at noon and catch up on my sleep! I also caught up with other things.....like sex with the HOT medical resident I blogged about awhile back! I love how life works in such mysterious ways......and at all of the right times. My hottie doctor gave me a prostate exam I'll never forget!
